The Southwestern Alabama ARES Group, has the responsibility for the Emergency Communications Training of the Amateur Radio Operators located in and around Mobile County , Alabama.

Being located on the Gulf Coast, hurricanes and severe weather conditions are a common occurrence for us, as well as for those States that adjoin us along the Emerald Coast . Because of these severe weather phenomenon’s, we must always be ready to activate our services to help out locally as well as to help those around us when the need arises. Within Mobile County, there are presently 10 Amateur Radio Clubs and over 600 Amateur Radio Operators. The goal of our group, is to provide training for these radio operators and for the local, county and state agencies. We have found through experience, that this training is necessary in order for these groups to be able to work together with a high level of efficiency and understanding during the stressful times of emergencies or disasters.

We feel that some of the ways to accomplish this, is to encourage participation in large scale exercises such as the ARRL’s annual Simulated Emergency Test (S.E.T.) as well as other smaller Training Sessions and local Ham fun activities that are held through out the year.

Please browse through our Web-Page. The objective of this page is to provide up-to-date information to local Amateur Radio Operators, and at the same time serve as a resource page. We invite any suggestions to improve this web-site. Please direct your comments to the "web-master."
